Current version (2.5) crashes in Big Sur OS X 11.1 when trying to place text. All other functions work - you just can't add text to a drawing - major trouble for how I use the program.

it sucks, it's super laggy and i can't do anything. ANYTHING. i can make black lines, but it takes about 10 seconds of loading before it does anything. terrible.

Far inferior to microsoft paint. Cut and paste functions simply do not work - when I hit paste it either fails to drop the image at all, just leaving behind an empty selection box, or it drops the image on a completely random part of the canvas and the selection box is separate from the image, so you can't drag and drop it to a new location, which is a real pain when it lands on top of another part of your image so you have to undo and try again. Complete lack of control whatsoever. Lag is atrocious when doing anything, particularly dragging and dropping images and painting. The only reason I've tried to persevere with it is because I can't be bothered to set up a virtual windows environment on my mac just for paint. Terrible piece of software.

It used to be good now it's just awful, keeps crashing, never opens ANY of my files, and doesn't save my progress. In addition it doesn't undo anything anymore no matter how many times I try. Awful tool don't recommend until they get it fixed.

Very difficult to use, not even half as good as MS paint, program keeps crashing and freezing up my computer. Even when I try to update it, it will have the same problems!

Cannot edit selections.
Very disappointed. I used the Paint on my PC incredibly often to draw house plans and I am unable to select and edit (stretch, flip) small images such as doors and walls in my drawings now.

Brings back the atmosphere of kindergarten.
Paintbrush is the great application for kids and their parents. This handy tool is a good way to amuse your child. It resembles Paint for Windows. You can make simple images and save them in different formats. There is an option to copy and paste pictures and edit them. Paintbrush brings back the atmosphere of kindergarten. You can relax and create your own masterpiece

The technical term for this program is Not Very Good At All..
Relatively useless. This is supposed to replace MS Paint but is trying to be photo shop or something. It is as intuitive as driving an F-16 with a toothbrush.

Terrible.
Terrible for inserting text, and it keeps randomly crashing so that I always lose my saved work. When I copy and paste a selection, not only does the pasted selection appear in a random spot (sometimes even over the drawing itself!), it also doesn't allow me to move it unless I select it again. Which sucks, because, as I already mentioned, it may - no, ALWAYS - appears over the drawing. Sometimes when I wish to paste the selection, it jumps out of the frame.To be completely honest, I am extremely disgruntled and frustrated with the quality of this application. I will not use it anymore and am looking for better alternatives. Which will be a breeze to find, seeing as to how this is one of the worst paint application I have ever used.However, the appearance looks rather nice, but it doesn't change my opinion of the horribleness of Paintbrush.

Outstanding.
Having grown up on MS Paint, it's understandable that once I got a Mac, I looked for a software that is comparable in both features and capability. This software gets it right. They capture the primary features that were essential to Paint, and make the software very simple for the user. Most importantly, it is far superior to all other free photo editing software for Mac. Absolutely download this.

-Easy to learn
-Lots of tools
-Best product of its kind for Mac
Cons: I've heard it's prone to crashes, but I haven't experienced that at all.

Great for basics!.
I love this program. Now, granted, I use it for very simple things: mostly doodles and the like, but it's been very useful. It's the closest thing I have found to MS Paint, which is lovely. It's got several ways to choose colors, and has all the basic cut/paste, paintbrush in various size, eraser, etc. etc. etc. which is lovely. I mean, like others have said, it is basic. It is very basic, but if all your doing is simple little things, like playing around with it, then you're set. It's crashed a couple've times for me when I changed the canvas size, but if you save frequently, you can get around that. The pictures email nicely to friends, and it's just a ton of fun to use, very easy to get the hang of.

Buggy - I'd like to downgrade to older version.
Lots of problems with pasting images from clipboard. Sometimes it won't paste at all - I can copy and paste directly from the internet, but if I first paste it to Word (to resize it - Paintbrush doesn't allow this), then copy and paste to Paintbrush, it won't paste. Other times if I paste an image, it leaves a wide white band on top and pastes below the expected location. Very odd.

Good program - but crashes.
The paintbrush program is great as far as basic editing goes, but two major bugs have turned me away from this program.

1) The program crashes during certain copy+paste activities. You are trying to copy from one image to another, make sure the first image is deselected before you click paste otherwise the program will crash and any unsaved progress will be lost.

2) The undo function sometimes undoes more than just the last activity depending on whether your undoing text, copied images, drawings, etc. There's no way to tell.

If they can fix these issues, then the program will be pretty good. Until then, the frustrations of losing work are far from worth the download.

For the times when you just need to draw shapes!.
I really only needed a beyond basic program to do quick diagrams with the utilities that seashore lacks (elipses, squares etc) so I found this program to be alright as anything more complicated could be done with seashore and/or GIMP. Judging from comments about bugs, Paintbrush seems to be best for those times when you just need something to draw shapes!

There's a big.
This software is really useful for some graphics work, but there is a bug. You cannot zoom in and use the cut and paste feature. The stuff you paste ends up in the wrong place and you can't grab it gain. If the programmers would fix this bug, I would give the software a much higher rating.

Nice, simple app.
Lovely, simple to use. Reliable and stylish application. I do a lot of quick and simple image editing, and I am heartlily sick of the big slow graphic apps like paintbrush or Gimp. This is a refreshingly simple app.
Pros: Simple to use, quick and easy.
Cons: I guess if you are an expert and want to crank out complex images this may not have the power for you.

Horrible. Are we kidding?.
Horrible. I just downloaded it & it timed out on me about 5 times already before I could even do the first step of what I wanted to. Worst thing ever and very annoying. Can't even reduce image size without timing out. Is this thing serious?
Pros: None. All I was able to do was paste an image, and when I went to reduce the size of that image, thats as much as it could handle and timed out every time I tried.
Cons: Horrible. Can't do anything. What I wanted to do was ridiculously simple. Irritating.

bah....
Really irritating if I want to reduce picture size or cut the picture. I have to go all the way to Canvas to do some cutting, plus it takes years to succeed pfff..... In Microsoft Paintbrush you can simply slide your picture cutting at will. Why cant this one? :-S ...

flipping pictures?.
when i take a picture with my Photobooth, the pic is flipped some how,
the lettering on my tshirt are all backwards, now on my PC i can use paint and flip the pic myself with a flick of a button, is this app the same as the windows when it comes to flipping pictures?
I have the macbook OS X 10.6.6
any help would be greatly appreciated

Not nearly complete.
This program, while close to paint, is lacking serious features. Plus, I can't undo text boxes?! It needs some serious updating.

Re: Softonic toolbar uninstall problems.
For all those that have had problems uninstalling the Softonic toolbar, please note that if you want to uninstall it, you must use the uninstall option from the Softonic icon in the Menu Bar. Do not simply drag the application to the Trash as the toolbar will be left behind.

Very fun.
This app is great. If you're not a serious drawing person, you'll have lots of fun with it. Reminds me just enough of MS Paint to be fun and make joke drawings, but also to make some really cool stuff.
Pros: Fun, very simple.
Cons: Could be fun to have an "Import image..." feature to add to your paintings. Whatever.

Not quite developed enough...!?.
The Paintbrush is a good enough replica of Microsoft Paint, I guess, but the amount of tool options is too little! Most Microsoft Paint models have way more tools, for example most have both a brush and a pencil tool, the pencil tool is pretty useless, but the brush tool, which has a variation in brush size to the minimum of one pixel, is really good, especially when making sprites. The Paintbrush would be way better if you could add some more touches such as a proper paintbrush?

well i think i have a problem with this ... it seems that whenever i drag the icon of paintbrush to my application folder, (to install it so says the picture of instructions) and then press on the icon (which by now is on my application folder), then the freaking picture appears!!! Help someone please explain the answer to my problem. you see im horrible with electronics other then using the internet and whatnots, i cant do anything else :(. i feel old although i assure you that im not really that old xD. SO HELP ME!!!!!

not the same as MS Paint in a significant way.
Unless I"m missing it on my new MacBook Pro, Paintbrush isn't at all as good as MS Paint. On Paint I could open up any jpeg in Paint or saved drawing, and work on it there. I don't see any option for opening up a saved picture file on Paintbrush. Yet another disappointment with switching to Mac.

Paintbrush comes from MacPaint which was before Win/Paint.
I like this Paintbrush, it runs good on Tiger. It's simple to use if you only need simple sketches or if you want to alter an image pixel by pixel, which is something I just can't do with Preview. Paintbrush is FREE, why did someone pay for it?? btw the installation process is like any other app, I didn't have any problem.
I clearly remember using Macs back on late 80's and early 90's when screen monitors were still B&W ... in those days there were Paint and Paintbrush ... and all that was BEFORE Win3.0 even was conceived, how could anyone say that this is a clone of something created afterwards??
Anyway if you don't like this app try something more sophisticated like GIMP which is also free. And if you really really miss that Win/Paint then use BootCamp or VMware Fusion to install Windows, it really does work better on a Mac :)
